Teacher's family to get Rs 5 lakh compensation (India)

Thiruvananthapuram, March 12 -- The family of Lissy, the teacher who was killed in an elephant  attack in Kuttampuzha Adivasi village, will be given Rs 5 lakhs as compensation. Briefing on Cabinet decisions here, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the current permissible amount for such compensation is Rs 3 lakhs, but the government has decided to give an additional amount of Rs 2 lakhs in this case, taking into account the difficult situations in which the victim served as teacher in a school located in a forest area.
